Doris Cole Shotwell Purgason

South Boston, VA Doris Cole Shotwell Purgason passed away December 30, 2016 at the age of 91.Born September 3, 1925 in Halifax County, she was the daughter of the late John Alec Cole and the late Ola Lowery Cole. Ms. Purgason was retired fromJP Stevens. Her children and grandchildren were the love of her life. Survivors include daughters, Wanda Evans(Bill), Brenda Wilborn(Billy), Angela Faye Whitaker(Rick); son, John R. “Binky” Shotwell; grandchildren, Leasa Oakley(Randall), Shannon Pulley(Jason), Brock Shotwell(Ada), Kaci Shotwell, Jody Wilborn, LeeAnn Brock(Drew), Amy Berger; 13 great grandchildren; 6 great, great grandchildren; sister, Nelva C. Lowery; and special family member, Teresa Gravitt.She was predeceased by her stepmother, Bessie Cole; a son, Harry G. Shotwell, Jr.; sisters, Daisy Averette and Viola Lowery; brothers, Felix, James, Raymond, Malcolm, and Buddy Cole. Funeral services will be Sunday, January 1, 2017 at 3:00 PM at the Brooks Lyon Chapel with Rev. Chris McGee officiating.Burial will follow in the Cole Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 1, 2017 from 2:00 – 3:00 PM prior to the service and other times at the home of Brenda and Billy Wilborn, 11243 Huell Matthews Hwy. Alton, VA
