Doris Barksdale Thomas

Mrs. Doris Barksdale Thomas of 300 Leigh St., South Boston, VA died Monday, October 15, 2012 at the age of 81. She was born in Halifax Co., VA on July 21, 1931 to the late Julius Barksdale and the late Lelia Roberts Boyd and was married to Cary D. Thomas, Sr. Mrs. Thomas was a homemaker and a member of Bread of Life Church of God. Survivors include her husband, Cary D. Thomas, Sr. of South Boston, VA; one son, Cary D. "Danny" Thomas, Jr. and wife, Frankie Jean of Danville, VA; one daughter, Betty Jones and husband, A.B. Jones, Jr. of Halifax, VA; one brother, Joe Barksdale and wife, Margaret of South Boston, VA; grandsons, Daniel Thomas, and wife, Jen of South Boston, VA, Derek Thomas and wife, Mary of South Boston, VA, Albert Jones and wife, Dana of Halifax, VA, Brent Jones of Charlotte, NC; 6 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Thomas Blenton Conner, and one sister, Mae Vaughn. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 17, 2012 at 2:00 PM at South Boston Church of God with Rev. Daniel Thomas, Rev. Albert Jones, and Rev. Rick Stigile officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the church.
