Dorothy Rae Icenhour Adcock

February 20, 1932 — March 13, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Dorothy Rae Icenhour Adcock, cherished wife, devoted mother, and beloved grandmother, and great-grandmother. Dorothy passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 13, 2025, in Henderson, NC. She was 93 years old.

Dorothy was born on February 20, 1932, in Mecklenburg County, VA, to James Worley Icenhour and Vergie Mabel Icenhour.  Dorothy first attended Chase City Elementary School, later graduating from Boydton High School. She went on to further her education at Smithdeal-Massey Business College.

Dorothy was a skilled and dedicated bookkeeper, sharing her skills with the Oxford Baptist Church where she served faithfully as Financial Secretary for many years. Her bookkeeping expertise also extended to the family enterprises, Christina's Restaurant and the Buy Quick's of Oxford. Her commitment to her work and her community was a testament to the tireless spirit she carried throughout her life.

A woman of deep faith and kindness, Dorothy was an active member of the Women on Missions Group and The Lila Overby Sunday School Class. For many years, she lent her talents to the church choir, finding joy in song and fellowship. Dorothy also found great pleasure in her garden, tending to her flowers with the same care she showed in nurturing her family.

Dorothy's legacy lives on through her devoted husband of 69 years, Douglas R. Adcock, and their loving family: sons, Douglas Lynn Adcock (Mary), Christopher Ray Adcock  (Tammy); grandchildren Christina Renee Gibbs (Matt), Joseph Tanner Adcock (Leann); and great-grandchildren William, Annabel, and Hugo, all of whom brought her immense joy. She also leaves behind a special daughter, Vieng Rattanong; dear sisters Mildred Elliott and Ruth Ann Thompson; step siblings, Maurice Shelton (Shirley) & David Shelton (Ann) and numerous nieces, nephews, and her devoted caregivers, Stephanie Timberlake and Mary Watson.  Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, James William and Wallace Leroy Icenhour, and her sister, Mabel Clements.

A graveside service to honor and celebrate Dorothy's remarkable life will be held on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at 1:00 pm at Easters Methodist Church Cemetery in Boydton, VA. Arrangements have been entrusted to Watkins-Cooper-Lyon Funeral Home.
