Dorothy Watts Hudson

Dorothy Watts Hudson passed away peacefully on January 21, 2018, in Richmond, Va. She was born on November 28, 1926, in Halifax County, Va., the daughter of David Emory and Ida Murray Watts. She was married for 56 years to Richard Lowery Hudson until his death on November 3, 2002. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by two brothers, John Gilliam Watts and David Emory Watts Jr. She is survived by her devoted sons, Ronald L. Hudson (Nancy) of Richmond, Va. and Michael W. Hudson (Sarah) of Charlottesville, Va.; granddaughter, Jennifer Hudson Cardwell (Mark) of New Kent, Va.; grandson, Matthew S. Hudson of Charlottesville, Va.; and great-granddaughter, Jill Suzanne Cardwell, also of New Kent, Va. She is also survived by two sisters, Mary Shirley Ford of South Boston, Va. and Nancy Jane Rodgers of Fredericksburg, Va.; as well as many devoted nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Visitation in Richmond, where she lived from 1943 to 1989, will be at Bliley's, 8510 Staples Mill Rd., Richmond, Va. 23228, on Wednesday, January 24, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Visitation in South Boston, Va. will be at Brooks Lyon Funeral Home, 115 Main St., South Boston, Va. 24592, on Thursday, January 25, from 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral service and burial will be at Shady Grove United Methodist Church, 8007 E. Hyco Rd., Virgilina, Va. 24598 on Friday, January 26, at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Shady Grove UMC, 4129 E. Hyco Rd., South Boston, Va. 24592.
