Dorothy Glasscock Matherly

Clarksville, VA- Mrs. Dorothy Glasscock Matherly, wife of the late Roy Luther Matherly, Jr., went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 15, 2019, at the age of 87. She was born May 1, 1932, in Mecklenburg County to the late Thomas Simm and Rosa Etta Claiborne Glasscock. Dorothy worked most of her adult life as a grocery cashier, first with Vaughan’s Grocery, then Winn Dixie and finally with Food Lion, before retiring in May 2007. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church. Dorothy is survived by her daughters Cynthia Goodwin (David) of Richmond and Carol Guerrant (Judd) of Clarksville; sons Jeffrey Matherly (Audrea) of Dunnellon, FL, Larry Matherly (Patricia) of Red Oak and Barry Matherly (Faye) of Hurdle Mills, NC; 9 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. on Saturday, May 18, in the chapel at Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home with the Reverend Jack Stewart officiating. Burial will follow in Buffalo Baptist Tabernacle Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the service beginning at 12:30 P.M.
