Dorothy Gregory Morrison

Dorothy Gregory Morrison, “Dot”, 82, passed away on January 26, 2015 in Richmond, Virginia surrounded by family. Dot, the daughter of Carl and Louise Gregory, was born and raised in Skipwith, VA. Upon graduating from Longwood College, she married her childhood sweetheart, Raymond Morrison of Clarksville. They were married for 36 years and together raised four children in Lynchburg and Richmond. Dot was librarian of Bon Air Elementary School in Chesterfield County for many years. She cherished sharing stories with the children and fostering their love of reading. She dearly loved Bon Air Christian Church, which she attended from 1967 to 2015 and where she was elected an Elder Emerita. Dot loved spending time in her yard, at the family farm with her parents, and at her Outer Banks beach house with family and friends. She enjoyed traveling with three especially dear friends who affectionately dubbed themselves the “Stone Magnolias.” She was a Charter member of the Crossings at Bon Air Retirement Community where she organized the library and played bridge with new friends. In her last days, Dot received loving care from her daughter, Karen, and son-in-law, Wilton, in their Ashland home. Dot was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, siblings Helen Gooch and Sonny Gregory, as well as three grandchildren, Maggie Dale, Emma Morrison and Joel Parrish. She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law Karen and Wilton Parrish, Ellen and Glenn Birch and Suzanne and Sterling Dale, and a son, Greg Morrison of Charlotte, NC. Survivors also include grandchildren Anna-Leigh Dale, Ray, Carl and Nicholas Morrison and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive family and friends from 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 31 at Watkins Cooper Lyons Funeral Home, 703 Virginia Avenue, Clarksville, VA. Interment will follow at the Oakhurst Cemetery, 185 Buffalo Road, Clarksville, at 2 p.m. A memorial service will be held on at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 7 at Bon Air Christian Church, 2071 Buford Road, Richmond VA. A reception will follow in the fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Bon Air Christian Church.
