VIRGILINA - Dorothy “Dot” Christine Manning Wilkerson died on January 27, 2017, following a car accident.She was born in 1932 in Grimesland, NC, to Stephen and Emma Manning. Upon graduation from Woodrow Wilson High in Portsmouth, VA, she entered nursing school.She graduated from King’s Daughters nursing school in 1954 as an RN.Following graduation, she worked as a nurse in private practice in Portsmouth.An Air Force wife and mother of three, she was active in her church, scouts and schools in the communities where they lived. While raising her family, Dot moved from the Portsmouth area to Little Rock AFB, K.I. Sawyer AFB in upper Michigan where she volunteered at the base clinic, and after retirement, to the Wilkerson family farm in Virgilina. She was an avid reader, knitter, crocheter, and seamstress, a masterful cook, and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She was predeceased by husband Richard Sidney Wilkerson. She leaves behind her husband of 57 years Abner Lee, daughter Melanie Bianco, sons Richard and Robert, and six grandchildren. Her absence will be deeply felt by those who knew and loved her. Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at 11:00 AM in Virgilina Cemetery.
