Douglas Durell "D.D." Lowery, of South Boston, passed away on Sunday, June 9, 2024 at the age of 77. Born in Halifax County on September 26, 1946, he was the son of the late John Willard Lowery and the late Anna Bell Yancey Lowery.
D.D. loved old cars and was very passionate about racing and NASCAR. He retired from the powerplant industry as a superintendent. He owned and operated Hillcrest restaurant and loved hanging out with his buddies.
He is survived by daughters, Kim Lowery Pool, Kelly Lowery and Karen Lowery Hawks; grandchildren, Ericka Pool, Glenn Spell, Allison Forlines and Kirsten Hawks; special friend, Kevin Ahearn; and several other family members.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Willard Randolph Lowery; and significant other, Linda Glass.
A Graveside Service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, June 12, 2024 at Black Walnut Baptist Church Cemetery with Reverend Mark Boyd officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM, at Black Walnut Baptist Church and at other times at Kelly's home, 2020 Bold Springs Rd., South Boston.
