Douglas Mitchell Ray, Sr.

Douglas Mitchell Ray, Sr of South Boston passed away on Monday, August 12, 2024 at the age of 80.  Born in Halifax County on July 9, 1944, he was the son of the late Kermit Lucious Ray and Margaret Hazel Gravitt Ray.  He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Evelyn Harris Ray.

Douglas worked at JP Stevens as a slasher for over 30 years. He loved farming & that was where he was the happiest.  He always liked to stay busy and was often found 'piddling' with an array of farm equipment.  Douglas was a wonderful father, grandfather & great grandfather and loved all his babies dearly.

He is survived by daughters, Caroline Reeves (Ken) and Renee Reagan (Scott); son, Douglas Ray, Jr (Jen); 10 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; brothers-in-law, Ronnie Conner and Mitchell Russell.
In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by 4 brothers and 3 sisters.

The family will receive friends on Friday, August 16, 2024 from 6:30 PM until 8:00 PM at Brooks Lyon Funeral Home.
