Mr. Eddie Lawson "E.L." Turner of 3135 Cedar Grove Rd., Alton, VA died on Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at the age of 85. He was born on October 9, 1927 to the late William Andrew Turner and the late Mamie Zimmerman Turner, and was married to Dorothy Lucille Link Turner, now deceased. Mr. Turner was a member of Cedar Grove United Methodist Church where he was very involved in all aspects of the church. For many years, he helped coach the community youth in baseball, softball, and basketball, and even volunteered extra time and transportation to that all children could participate. He is survived by two sons, Larry D. Turner and his wife, Pat and Carl E. Turner and his wife, Wanda of Alton, VA; one sister, Wray Weaver of Roxboro, NC; and two grandchildren, Jonathan Turner and Alyssa Turner. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and three brothers, Swanson, Marvin, and Bernice Turner. Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 24, 2013 at 2:00 PM at Cedar Grove United Methodist Church with Rev. Bonnie Pizzeck officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Brooks Funeral Home on Thursday, May 23, 2013 from 7 pm until 8:30 pm and at other times at his home.
