Edith Hazelwood Bray

SOUTH BOSTON Mrs. Edith Hazelwood Bray passed away on August 26, 2021 at the age of 77. Born in Halifax County on January 26, 1944, she was the daughter of Thomas Hazelwood, Jr and Ida Conner Hazelwood. She was predeceased by her husband, Harold W. Smith and her first husband, David J. Bray. Edith was a very generous person, always helping her family and there when needed. She was previously employed with J P Stevens and later Boston Commons. She is survived by a son, David J. Bray, Jr; daughter, Sandra Teresa Bray; 5 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; brother, Otis Hazelwood (Jenny); sister, Carolyn Carrington (Lloyd); step daughter, Cindy Bray; and other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents and husbands she was preceded in death by sisters, Geraldine Lacks, Betty Turlington and Beatrice Hazelwood. A special thanks to Sentara Hospice, especially Estella and Anita, and all others who took special care of Edith. A Graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, August 29, 2021 at Halifax Memorial Gardens with Pastor Coy Terry officiating. The family will receive friends at the cemetery following the service. The family asks that everyone in attendance please follow Covid precautions and protocols.
