Edith Elizabeth Elliott Williams of Scottsburg Virginia died peacefully on Tuesday, September 5, 2023 surrounded by her family. Born in Halifax County on November 1, 1933 to the late Morell and Clara Susan Snead Elliott of Scottsburg Virginia, she was married to the late Frank Raymond Williams for 61 years.
She was a long- time member of Clover United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir for over 60 years and actively participated in various ministries and committees. Edith was a loving mother, Granny, sister and friend and loved to do special things for her family for whom she loved dearly. Edith enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening, quilting, cooking, playing softball until the age of 60 and regularly visiting family and friends both near and far.
She is survived by one son, Frank R. Williams, Jr. (Dale) of Nathalie, VA and 3 daughters, Ann Norton (Junior) of Pelham, NC, Rita Griles (Dwayne) of Scottsburg, VA, and Tammy Wooding (George) of Sutherlin VA.
Edith had 9 grandchildren: Frank R. “Trey” Williams, III (Christy) of Davidson, NC, Brandi Noblin Stephens (Daniel) of Concord, NC, Brian Noblin (Sarah) of Stem NC, Devin Griles (Heather) of Gasburg, VA, Luke Griles (Jessi) of Scottsburg, VA, Heather Runnett (Bailey) of Scottsburg, VA, Elizabeth Grove (Nicholas) of Sutherlin, VA, Jacob Wooding (Payton) of Sutherlin, VA and Reese Wooding of Sutherlin, VA. She had 17 great-grandchildren plus one on the way. She is survived by one brother, Bobby Elliott of Chesterfield, VA and one sister, Dorothy Ann Dance of Vinton, VA.
She was preceded in death by 7 brothers: Edgar Elliott, “Pug” Elliott, Harry Byrd Elliott, “Brownie” Elliott, Willis Elliott, Donald Elliott, and Cecil Elliott and 4 sisters: Maurine Ligon, Jeanette Hazelwood, Geneva V. Elliott and Ruth Pulliam.
She was very fond of her loving and devoted caregivers, Sylvana, Karen, Judy, Jody, Virginia and Nancy, for whom the family owe a great deal of gratitude.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM on Saturday, September 9, 2023 at Clover United Methodist Church, Clover, VA with Reverend Tom Byrum officiating. Burial will follow at Clover Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday from 12:30 PM - 1:30 PM and other times at the home of Rita & Dwayne Griles, 1042 Williams Rd., Scottsburg.
