Mrs. Edna Simmons Wilbourne of Skipwith passed away on Tuesday, November 14, 2023 at the age of 91. She was born in Boydton, VA on February 13, 1932 the daughter of the late Nonnie E. Simmons and Virgie Crutchfield Simmons and was married to the late Luther Snead Wilbourne. Edna started her working career at Craddock Terry Shoe for 25 years, and finished her working years as an inspector with Burlington Industries. Edna enjoyed gardening and was well known for vegetables. She loved to sew and quilt and passed her time doing word search puzzles. Mrs. Wilbourne is survived by her sons, William T. Wilbourne of Chesterfield, and David A. Wilbourne (Sandra) of Skipwith; and granddaughters, Michelle Barnes (Darell) of Clarksville, Scottie Elliott (Stacy) of Virgilina, and Sarah Bowen (Seth) of Skipwith; grandsons, Stacey Wilbourne (Marie) of Powhatan, Adam Wilbourne of Clarksville, Dan Wilbourne (Melissa) of Skipwith, Ryan Wilbourne (Lindsey) of Mosely, VA; 16 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Joan W. Tuck; sisters, Mildred Simmons Colgate and Shirley Wood; brothers, James Henry Simmons and W.L. “Bill” Simmons; a grandson, Benjamin Snead Tuck; and son-in-law, Lane Tuck. Edna's family would like to extend special thanks to all of her caregivers, Anne King, Sandra Inge, Barbara Royster, Phyllis Dixon, Vernell Elam Smith, and Jean Pugh. Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 17, 2023 at 2pm at Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Rodney Barwick officiating. Burial will follow in Bluestone Cemetery. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service and at all other times at Edna's home.
