Edsil Smith Murray

Edsil Smith Murray passed away Thursday, March 21, 2013 at The Woodview Nursing Home in South Boston. He was 87 years of age and was born in Halifax County on September 30, 1925 to the late Howard and Jennie Murray. A carpenter and farmer, Smith was retired from Burlington Industries where he had worked for 40 years. Graveside services will be 1 PM Saturday, March 23rd in Oakhurst Cemetery with the Reverend Jane Lyon officiating. Smith is survived by his son, Michael Murray of Clarksville; daughter, Bonny Martinez and her husband, John, of Willow Springs, NC and the mother of his children, Agnes Murray of Clarksville. His grandchildren, Leslie Hess and her husband, Donnie, of Halifax; Kristopher Murray Purdy of Eden, NC; great grandchildren, Buck and Josh Hess; nieces, Karen, Linda, Cheryl, and Becky and nephews, Alan, Randy, Donny, and Wayne, also survive. He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy; his brothers, Glen, Curtis and Douglas Murray and his sister, Margie Hite.
