Clarksville, VA Edward Watson Barden passed away on January 15, 2018 in Clarksville, Virginia. He was born January 31, 1932 to Morton and Elizabeth Elliott Barden in Amelia County, Virginia.In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers Elliott and John. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Nancy Morris Barden; son, Daniel Watson Barden; daughter, Holly Barden Stadtler and her husband, Terry, in addition four grandchildren, Sundance Stadtler, Heather Barden, Serena Barden, and Melanie Barden. His twin brother, Harry Rucker Barden, also survives. Ed served in the U.S. Navy from 1951-55, part of that time as a crew member for training blimp pilots in Lakehurst, NJ. After his enlistment, he attended NC State where he earned a degree in wood technology in 1958. He had a 36 year career in the wood industry in South Boston, VA; Brewster, NY; Stamford, CT and Atlanta, GA. He retired from Georgia-Pacific Corporation in 1994 as a wood scientist in research and development, and relocated to Clarksville. A memorial service and reception will be held at Jamieson Memorial United Methodist Church, 219 Fifth Street, Clarksville, Virginia at 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 20, 2018. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Clarksville Community Players for the Capital Campaign, P.O. Box 952, Clarksville, VA 23927.
