Edward Joseph Kroupa, 92, husband of Florence Kroupa, passed away Thursday, July 31, 2014 at The Heritage in Raleigh. Mr. Kroupa was born November 26, 1921 in Islip, NY to the late John and Anna Trefny Kroupa. A graduate of Islip High School, he obtained his degree in Forestry from the New York State Ranger School. A United States Army Veteran, Mr. Kroupa served his country during World War II. A wounded prisoner of war, he was the recipient of the Purple Heart and Bronze Star, and was a member of the VFW, Roanoke River Post # 8163. Mr. Kroupa was a member of Bay Shore Congregational Church, where he served as a Trustee. Mr. and Mrs. Kroupa lived most of their married life in Brightwaters, Long Island and had lived in Clarksville, Va. for 28 years before becoming a resident of Raleigh. Graveside services will be held at 2:30 pm on Monday in the Mausoleum Chapel at Woodland Cemetery in Chase City with the Reverend Dr. Barbara Murphy officiating. In addition to his wife of 68 years, Mr. Kroupa is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas and Dixie Kroupa of Portland, Oregon, John Kroupa and Noreen Fisher of Riverhead, NY, and Ed and Susan Kroupa of Raleigh. His six grandchildren and four great grandchildren also survive. He was preceded in death by his sister, Ann Woodhull and his brothers, Charles and John Kroupa.
