Edward Presley Yancey

Edward Presley Yancey of Buffalo Junction, VA passed away on Monday, December 18, 2023, at the age of 80. Born in Mecklenburg County on January 4, 1943, he was the son of the late Robert and Luby Williamson Yancey and was married to Diane Greene Yancey, who survives. Edward was a 1962 graduate of Bluestone High School and one year of Hardbarger Business School. He worked for 40 years as an industrial electrician. He was a member of Averette Baptist Church and for the last ten years he attended Buffalo Baptist Tabernacle. Edward loved the farm, hunting, and helping people in the community. He could fix or build anything, and he deeply loved his grandchildren and family.

In addition to his wife of 59 years, Edward is survived by his children, Sandra Bright (Marty) of Fuquay Varina, Cynthia Higgins of Danville, and Steven Yancey (Mary Beth) of Buffalo Junction; grandchildren, Madeline Higgins, Tyler Higgins, Hana Yancey and Clara Yancey; sister, Martha Y. Owen; nephew, Curtis Arrington (Michelle); nieces, Joni Woltz and Jeannie Burton; sister-in-law, Judy Smith (David); brother-in-law, Gene Greene; and "adopted" son, David "Mudhole" Tillotson. He was preceded in death by a sister, Nancy Y. Arrington and a nephew, Robbie Arrington.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 28, 2023, in the chapel at Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home with burial to follow in Oakhurst Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 – 7:30 pm on Wednesday, December 27.
