Eleanor Halversen Cummings

DURHAM, NC Ms. Eleanor Halversen Cummings of Durham, NC and formerly from South Boston, passed away on Monday, December 21, 2020 at the age of 72. Born in New York on April 12, 1948, she was the daughter of Thomas Cahill Cummings and Carroll Hall Cummings. Eleanor was a former corrections officer with New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision. She was faithful to her church and was a major cat lover. She is survived by her children; Julia Marsden (Charles) of South Boston, Ray McElroy (Jennifer) of South Boston, William McElroy (Jennifer King) of South Boston, Joseph McElroy of Louisiana, Harold McElroy (Tiffany) of Florida and Thomas McElroy (Caroline) of Pennsylvania; her loving cat, Ginger and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and other family members. She was preceded in death by her sister, Carol Vorrees and her brother, Thomas Cummings. Funeral Services will be held Sunday, December 27, 2020 at 1:00 PM at St. Paschal Baylon Catholic Church in South Boston, VA with burial to follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family invites anyone who would like to pay their respects to Eleanor at Brooks Lyon Funeral Home at any other time prior to the service. Due to Covid restrictions, a formal visitation will not be observed.
