Elizabeth Laverne Jones Rice

Mrs. Elizabeth LaVerne Jones Rice, 59, passed away on Saturday, July 27, 2013 at her home. Born in South Boston, VA, Mrs. Rice was a daughter of the late Solomon Odell Jones and the late Elsie May Hudson Jones. She was a retired Supervisory Revenue Agent with 25 years of service with the IRS. She was a member of the Board at York Technical College, Who’s Who Honor Society and Phi Theta Kappa Sorority. She was awarded the Albert Gallatin Award in July of 2012. She was preceded in death by her sister, Nell Jones Murray. Mrs. Rice was a wonderful and loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She is survived by her husband, Claude S. Rice, Jr.; her sons, Scott Rice and his wife, Denise of Richburg, SC and Matthew Rice and his wife, Jennifer of Hendersonville, NC; her brother, Jeff Jones of Cluster Springs, VA; her grandson, Hudson Fisher Rice; and her granddaughters, Chloe Jane Rice and Amron Elizabeth Rice. The family will receive friends from 6-7:30pm on Monday, July 29, 2013 at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Rd, Rock Hill, SC and from 6-8pm on Tuesday, July 30, 2013 at Brooks Funeral Home, 115 Main St, South Boston, VA. The funeral service will be 10am on Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at the Union Christian Church in Virgilina, VA. Burial will be in Virgilina Cemetery.
