Elmer Jeffers Nichols

Mr. Elmer Jeffers Nichols of South Boston died Wednesday, April 7, 2010 at the age of 88. He was born in Halifax Co. on January 1, 1922 to the late Vincent Creighton and Ellie N. Nichols and was married to Janie Bradshaw Nichols. Mr. Nichols was a US Army veteran of WW II, was owner operator of Nichols Farm Supply from 1949 until 1985, and was a member of First Baptist Church since 1951. He was recently inducted into the Halifax Co. Bowling Hall of Fame and the Halifax Co. Sports Hall of Fame for his golf accomplishments. In addition to his wife, survivors include a daughter, Kim Nichols Lewis and husband, Keith of Baltimore, MD; a granddaughter, Lara Winn Lewis of Boston, MA; a grandson, James Lewis of Crozet; three sisters, Cecil Nichols of Clover, Jewel N. Pollard of Richmond, and Jean N. Irby of Norfolk;a step son-in-law, Bill Owen of Crozet; a step granddaughter, Sarah Katherine Owen of Arlington; and two step grandsons, Walter Owen of Waynesboro and Capt. Gordon Owen of Ft. Lee. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Trudy Nichols; two brothers; two sisters; and a step daughter, Carol B. Owen. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 10 at 2:00 PM at First Baptist Church with Rev. Dave Anderson officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday night from 7 until 8:30 PM at Brooks Funeral Home and at other times at the home, 1739 Haskins St., South Boston.
