Elmer Lowery Vaughan

HALIFAX Mr. Elmer Lowery Vaughan of Halifax passed away on Sunday, December 5, 2021 at the age of 87. Born in Halifax County on August 2, 1934, he was the son of the late Robert and Susie Moore Vaughan. He was married to Helen Alease Keaton Vaughan for 62 years. Elmer was retired with 47 years of employment from Burlington Industries where he began as a card tender and later as a maintenance technician. He had 39 years there with perfect attendance. Before his career with Burlington, Elmer served his country with the US Army. He was a very giving man and always willing to help someone. He loved to farm in his younger days, gardening, fishing and hunting. An enjoyment in his life was going to estate sales and collecting items. In addition to his wife, Helen, he is survived by daughters, Susan Knight (Rick) of Chesterfield, Dale Loftis (Tim) of Virgilina, and Wanda Holland (Tommy) of Halifax; grandchildren, Richard Knight and Karen Loftis; great grandchildren, Nym Knight; step grandchildren, Davin Gordon and Dalton Gordon; and siblings, Cecil Vaughan and Bob Vaughan. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandchild, David Loftis; siblings, Junior Vaughan, Charlie Vaughan, Doris Garber, Shirley Vaughan and JT Vaughan; and his son-in-law, Tommy Holland. A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, December 7, 2021 at Halifax Memorial Gardens with Reverend Ian Rigney officiating.
