Elsie Neal Griles

Elsie Mae Neal Griles of Halifax, formerly of Clover, Virginia passed away June 24, 2024 at the blessed age of 96 surrounded by family.  She was born in Clover, Virginia on May 11, 1928 to the late Thomas Stephen Neal and Sallie Blanch Throckmorton.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Fraizor Lee "Pete" Griles.

Elsie was a member of Clover Baptist Church where she was a Sunday school teacher, a faithful and dedicated choir member, and actively participated in various ministries and committees for over 50 years.  Elsie served her community by being a charter member of the Clover Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary and served on the Halifax County Improvement Council.  She retired as a postal clerk with Clover Post Office.  Elsie was a loving mother, grandmother, "Mema," sister, and friend.  She loved to do special things with her family.  She was an avid reader of fiction and nonfiction.

Elsie is survived by her three sons, James Steven Griles (Sue Ellen) of Southport, NC, Joseph Lee Griles (Debbie) of South Boston, VA, and Dwayne Neal Griles (Rita) of Scottsburg, VA.
Elsie was blessed with 9 grandchildren: Kimberly G. Harter (Jeff) of Ashburn, VA, Scott Griles (Marie) of Clover, VA, Timothy Griles of Richmond, VA, Lee Griles of Clover, VA, Maegan G. Aidekman (David) of Washington, D.C., Matt Griles (Kate) of Bloomington, IN, Devin Griles (Heather) of Gasburg, VA, Luke Griles (Jessie) of Scottsburg, VA, Heather G. Runnett (Bailey) of Scottsburg, VA; great-grandchildren: Morgan Paige Puryear (Michael) of Halifax, VA, Alexander Harter and Abigail Harter of Ashburn, VA, Kaylen Griles of Blacksburg, VA, Campe Griles of Richmond, VA,  Jack and Juniper Griles of Bloomington, IN, Chance Griles of Gasburg, VA, Josie and Jase Griles of Scottsburg, VA; and great-great-grandchildren: Wells and Ellie Puryear of Halifax, VA.  She is survived by her sister-in-law Violet M. Neal of South Boston, VA and numerous loving nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Elsie was preceded in death by her siblings Walker Neal, Janie Neal (infant), Bradley Neal, Willie Neal, Betty Sue N. Neal, Ruth N. Morgan, Ralph Neal (infant), Carl Neal, and Jack Neal.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, June 27, 2024 at Clover Baptist Church, Clover, VA.  Burial will follow in the Clover Cemetery, Mt. Laurel Rd., Clover, VA.  The family will receive family and friends on Wednesday, June 26, 2024 from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM at Brooks Lyon Funeral Home and all other times at the homes of Joe and Debbie Griles, South Boston, VA and Dwayne and Rita Griles of Scottsburg, VA.
