OXFORD, NC Ernest Filmore “Phil” Hill, Jr., 61, husband of Joyce Claiborne Hill, passed away at his home on Monday, November 17, 2014.Phil was born May 3, 1953 in Durham County, NC to the late Ernest Filmore Hill, Sr. and Kathryn Wells Hill.Growing up in Oxford, he was a graduate of J.F. Webb High School with the Class of 1972.A member of Florence Avenue Baptist Church, Phil served his church as a Sunday School teacher and as a Deacon.He loved flower gardening and making homemade Chow-Chow.A Purchasing Agent for AWNC of Durham, Phil was also a part-time staff member with Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home in Clarksville.Funeral services will be at 2pm on Wednesday at Florence Avenue Baptist Church with the Reverend Dr. Troy Rust officiating.Interment will take place at Virgilina Cemetery.In addition to his wife, Phil is survived by his son, Ernest Filmore Hill, III, “Trey”, of Henderson, daughter-in-law, Melissa Hill of Roxboro, grandchildren, Pamela and Whitney Hill of Roxboro, brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Jane Hill of Wake Forest and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Gene and Jane Lloyd of Virgilina.His nephews, Spencer Hill of Wake Forest and Chad Lloyd (Sara) of Oxford, great-nieces, Maya and Anna Lloyd of Oxford and loving caretaker, Linda Satterfield of Oxford, also survive.
