Ernest Lee "Monk" Powell

Ernest Lee "Monk" Powell passed away on Wednesday, October 26, 2022 at the age of 76. He was born in Halifax County on October 25, 1946 to the late Elgin "Punk" Powell and the late Virginia Keatts Powell. He was preceded in death by his wife, Brenda Bates Powell.

Monk was a former machine operator with both Daystrom Furniture and D-Scan. He recently worked with Gene's Orange Market and opened the store everyday for over 25 years.

He is survived by his son, Jamie Powell (Rebecca); daughter, Brittany Dalton; Granddaughter, Makayla Powell; siblings, Bernice Morris, Sarah Crump, Rose Wilmouth (Skip) and Gene "Ballie" Powell (Gayle).

Funeral Services will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, October 29, 2022 at Brooks Lyon Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Vance Midget officiating. Burial will follow at Glenwood Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, 1-2 PM at Brooks Lyon Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, Monk's family asks that donations be made to Halifax County Cancer Association at PO Box 1891 Halifax, VA 24558.
