Mr. Ernest Lawson Solomon of 12107 Philpott Rd., Alton, VA died Sunday, September 2, 2012 at the age of 94. He was born in Halifax Co., VA on October 11, 1917 to the late Ollie Lawson Solomon and the late Connie Murray Solomon and was married to Mildred Henderson Solomon. Mr. Solomon was a member of Olive Branch United Methodist Church, a past trustee of the church, a past treasurer of the church and cemetery, a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 8 for over 60 years, and a charter member of the Turbeville Ruritan Club. Survivors include his wife, Mildred Henderson Solomon of Alton, VA; three daughters, Carolyn S. Murray and husband, John of Charlotte, NC, Sandra S. Loftis and husband, Donald of Kernersville, NC, Susan S. Brown of Lewisburg, WV; one sister, Cornelia S. Moore of Alton, VA; one sister-in-law, Thelma Henderson of Alton, VA; two grandchildren, Derek Lawson Murray and Justin Tyson Brown; one great-granddaughter, Lawson Diane Murray; special family friends, The Aherron Family. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Lonnie Solomon, and one brother-in-law, Charlie Moore. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 5, 2012 at 2:00 PM at Olive Branch United Methodist Church with Rev. Bob Woodfin officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Brooks Funeral Home on Tuesday, September 4, 2012 from 6:30 PM until 8:00 PM and at other times at the home.
