ALTON, VA Eunice Louise Brandon Long went to be with the Lord on November 13, 2019.She was born in Halifax County, Virginia on March 31, 1922 into the lives of John Irving and Mary Rebecca Gordon Brandon.She wed Edward Owen Long in 1947 and they built their lives and home in Alton, Virginia where they raised three children.Together they operated Long’s Esso/Exxon, a successful country store, from 1947-1989.While Eunice could see beauty in many places, she always said nowhere could be prettier than Alton. Eunice was an active member of Alton Baptist Church where she was involved with her Sunday School class, missionary society, and served as hostess to many visiting ministers.She also taught Sunday School classes and vacation bible school.Eunice played an active role in the community serving as a room mother and chaperoning field trips when her children were young.Eunice and Owen were charter members of the Spring Hill recreation complex in Alton. Eunice enjoyed caring for her flowers, taking pride in her tulips, peonies, and a special rosebush given to her by her mother.She looked forward to Sunday afternoons rambling through antique stores with her sisters and niece (The Antiquing Girls). Eunice spent the last five years of her life under the loving care of the staff at Commonwealth Senior Living where she rediscovered her love of art and enjoyed outings to get Frostys. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, brother Berkley, and son Lowell.She is survived by her daughter, Norma Bull (Steve), son, Rodney Long (Judy); grandchildren Erin Bull, James Long (Angela), Brandon Bull and Jason Long (Liz) as well as great- grandchildren Ethan, Dylan, and Colin Long.Eunice is also survived by sisters Mary Smith, Edith Adams, Connie Brandon, and Elva Huckaby as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. The family will receive visitors at the home of James and Angela Long at 2707 Fernwick Drive in South Boston.Visitation will be 6 – 7:30 PM Friday, November 15, 2019 at Brooks Lyon Funeral Home in South Boston.The service will be held at Alton Baptist Church on Saturday, November 16, at 2:00 PM. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Flowers would be appreciated or in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Alton Baptist Church, 5071 Harmony Road, Alton, VA 24520, Hospice of Virginia, 202 Clark Street, Farmville, VA 23901 and Commonwealth Senior Living of South Boston’s Activity Fund, 435 Hamilton Blvd., South Boston, VA 24592.
