Floyd Mason Dickinson

August 15, 1942 — April 28, 2015

Mr. Floyd Mason Dickinson, Jr., 72, of Skipwith, VA, formerly of Richmond, VA and anative of Red Oak, VA, died on April 28, 2015, at Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital, after suffering from an extended illness.He was born to Floyd Mason Dickinson and Bessie Florence Cooper Dickinson on August 15, 1942.Mr. Dickinson was a lifelong member of Antioch Baptist Church in Red Oak.Floyd was the President for the Randolph Henry class of 1960. He graduated from Virginia Tech in 1964 and from Wake Forest Law School in 1972.After graduating he remained an avid VT supporter and was committed to never missing a televised Hokies football game.His entire career was spent as an examiner at the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond, eventually serving as the head examiner of the Trust Department.He also kept his membership current in the Virginia Bar Association.In his retirement, Mr. Dickinson volunteered as a driver for Charlotte County Meals on Wheels, enjoyed his breakfasts at Blue Collar Café and spending time at J. R.’s Country Store.Floyd was a “people person” he was kind and generous to everyone.He held a special place in his heart for children and animals. Mr. Dickinson is survived by his sister, Mary Elizabeth Covington McDade, his nephew, Kelvin Covington and his wife, Susan, and his great nephews (lovingly known as “the boys”), Chris and MasonCovington.Mr. Dickinson is also survived by his pet dog “Pepperoni”.The family will receive friends at Antioch Baptist, Saturday, May 2, at 9:30 AM, the funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM with the Reverend Joey Tucker officiating.In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Virginia Tech Foundation and sent to Virginia Tech, Hutcheson Hall Room 216 (0402), Attn:Barbara Martin, Blacksburg, VA 24061.
