Frances Wilkinson Crute

June 6, 1934 — June 3, 2023

Mrs. Frances Crute of Nelson, VA, age 88, traveled to her heavenly home on June 3, 2023. She was born on June 6, 1934, in Granville County, NC, to the late Lucille and George Propus Wilkinson, Sr. She was employed 35+ years with Burlington Industries, Clarksville, VA, as a valued employee whom corporate headquarters often called to get her input on dyeing material.

Frances grew up on a farm so it was no surprise that she married a farmer. She was well aware that being married to a farmer, Taughty, required a great partnership in marriage and life, thus making the farm a success. Together they sent their 5 children to college debt free. She loved reading and needlework, being an avid artist of quilting. Frances also enjoyed traveling throughout the U.S. and Canada.

As a mother, she left her mark on each of her children, teaching them the value of hard work. She taught them the value of having joy in their lives as well. Frances' fondest memories were of times when her children and grandchildren were sitting together telling stories and laughing.

Finally Frances loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She guided each of her children to their faith and baptisms. She served in many volunteer roles at Nelson Baptist Church, singing in the choir, teaching Sunday school and various leadership committees. Her legacy will live on in her children, her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Frances was preceded in death by her husband, James Mettauer Crute. She is survived by her daughter, Joanne Easley (Ron) of Nelson, VA, son, Bill Crute (Linda) of Rock Hill, SC, daughter, Carol Carter (Dale) of Chase City, VA, daughter, Betty Crute (Lyndsay) of Oxford, NC, and daughter, Cindy Overbey (Roger) of Nelson, VA; six grandchildren, Jennifer Hardy (Jason) of Ball Ground, GA, Sara Sandy (Matt) of Chase City, VA, Will Crute (Rebecca) of Aylor, SC, Emily Fitts of Chase City, VA, Marion Easley of Richmond, VA, and Morgan Easley of Richmond, VA; eight great grandchildren, Spencer Hardy, Grayson Hardy, Evalynn Hardy, Charles Sandy, Elizabeth Sandy, Julia Rose Crute, Mettauer Crute, and Samuel Crute.

A Celebration of life will be held at Nelson Baptist Church on Monday, June 5 at 2:00 P.M. Visitation will be from 1:00 P.M. until 1:50 P.M.
