Frances Tarbert Cosner Winckler

Frances Ann Tarbert Cosner Winckler of Virgilina, VA, passed away on Saturday, February 4, 2023, at the age of 77. Born in Halifax County on October 1, 1945, she was daughter of the late Allie Clifton Tarbert and the late Shirley Mae Newton Tarbert and was married to Charles Winckler, who survives. Frances worked as a nurse for 20 years at the hospital and with hospice. She also worked at Smiley’s and Virgilina Grocery and was a familiar face to many. However, first and foremost, she cherished her family and community of friends; her door was always open and welcoming. She enjoyed reading and attending dances at the VFW and American Legion. Frances was a member at Nelson Baptist Church.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by sons, Allen Cosner (Kate) and Sam Cosner (Erica) and grandchildren, Devin Cosner (Sophia), Marissa Cosner Holland (Drake) and Erin Cosner. Frances was preceded in death by her first husband, Harry Cosner and brother, Allie C. Tarbert, Jr.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, February 7 at Nelson Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The Reverend Norman Talley and Deacon Floyd Wiles will officiate. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday evening from 6 - 8:00 P.M.
