Franklin Halverson Smith

Mr. Franklin Halverson Smith of 1021 Carter Lane, Halifax, VA died Friday, March 14, 2014 at the age of 80. He was born in Halifax Co., VA on September 28, 1933 to the late Charlie D. Smith and the late Sallie Francis Smith and was married to Delores M. Smith. Mr. Smith was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was a scheduler for Georgia Pacific. He was an active member of Centerville Baptist Church where he was a former Sunday School teacher. Survivors include his wife, Delores M. Smith; two daughters, Donna L. Matthews and husband, James of Virgilina, VA and Robin A. Bishop and husband, Cliff of Fort Meade, MD; a step son, David Fallen and wife, Cindy of Nathalie, VA; four brothers, Willie Lee Smith of South Boston, VA, Isaac L. Smith Doswell, VA, Joe A. Smith of Richmond, VA, and Charlie D. Smith, Jr. of Germanton, NC; one sister, Frances S. Crews of Scottsburg, VA; and 12 grandchildren. in addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Reba S. Kinsey; a brother, John Smith; and a step daughter, Toni Saunders. Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 17, 2014 at 3:00 PM at Centerville Baptist Church with Rev. Todd McClure officiating. Burial will follow in Halifax Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Centerville Baptist Church on Monday, March 17, 2014 from 1:30 PM until 2:30 PM and at other times at the home.
