Mr. Freddy Nathaniel Newby, Jr. of 1078 Wallace Cole Rd., South Boston, VA died Friday, August 12, 2011 at the age of 48. He was born in High Point, NC on February 23, 1963 the son of Rita H. Craven and the late Freddy N. Newby, Sr.. He was married to Kimberly F. Newby. Mr. Newby was a retired LPN at Halifax Regional Hospital. He was a member of Second Baptist Church and was a former member of the Halifax Co. Rescue Squad and the Cluster Springs Vol. Fire Department. Survivors include his wife, Kimberly F. Newby of South Boston, VA; two sons, Freddy N. "Trey" Newby, III and James Nelson Newby, both of South Boston; his mother, Rita H. Craven and husband, Ronald of Sanford, NC; a brother, Dwight Lee Newby of Thomasville, NC; and a great aunt, Sylvia Thomas of Alton, VA. He was preceded in death by his father, Freddy N. Newby, Sr.; and his grandparents, Sadie T. Newby, M.E. "Shorty" Newby, and Mr. & Mrs. Robert Harris. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, August 14, 2011 at 3:00 PM at North Fork Baptist Church with Rev. Scott Welch officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Brooks Funeral Home Saturday, August 13, 2011 from 7:00 PM until 8:30 PM and at other times at the home. A luncheon for family and friends will be held at North Fork Baptist Church at 1:00 PM on Sunday prior to the funeral service.
