Fredric Blanton Powell

SOUTH BOSTON Fredric Blanton Powell, 77, husband of Brenda Burnett Powell, passed away Friday, December 6, 2019 at Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital.The son of the late Fred and Rosalie Powell, Freddie was born September 12, 1942. A graduate of Halifax County High School with the Class of 1960, he worked for JP Stevens before he and Brenda purchased Holland’s Cleaners, renaming it Powell’s Cleaners.Freddie ran this business for a combined 50+ years before fully retiring in 2018.He enjoyed spending his spare time sitting in the shade watching the world go by and holding his cats. Always wearing a smile on his face and laughter in his heart, Freddie loved everyone, especially his family.In addition to his wife of 57 years, Freddie is survived by his children, Richard Powell (Reneé), Lewis Powell (Tammy) and Beth Retzlaff (Jesse).His grandchildren, Allen Powell (fiancé, Megan Bradley), Whitney Claiborne (C.J.), Colton Powell and Logan Redd; great grandchildren, Bradley Powell and Lynleigh Claiborne; and sister, Rebecca Lee Powell also survives. Funeral services will be held 2pm Tuesday at First Baptist Church with the Reverends Garrett Bowman and Susan Davis officiating.Interment will follow at Gravel Hill Cemetery.The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial contributions to First Baptist Church Chancel Choir, 815 N.
