Garland Thurman "Pete" Lowery

Mr. Garland Thurman "Pete" Lowery, Sr. of 1035 Bold Springs Rd., South Boston, VA died Wednesday, August 3, 2011 at the age of 82. He was born in Halifax County, VA on October 9, 1928 to the late Emmon Cosby Lowery and the late Elizabeth Yancey Lowery. He was married to Virginia Satterfield Lowery for 58 years. Mr. Lowery was a retired equipment operator for VDOT - Cluster Springs Division. He was a member of New Harvest Assembly of God, was a sunday school superintendent until he became disabled, and was a 50 year member of Woodmen of the World Lodge 106. Survivors include his wife, Virginia Satterfield Lowery of South Boston, VA; a son, Sonny Lowery and wife, Bettie of South Boston, VA; a daughter, Darlene L. Wade and husband, Tim of Nathalie, VA; two sisters, Reba Anthony of Evington, VA and Ruth Bowen of Boydton, VA; a brother, Bill Lowery of Forest, VA; four grandchildren, Christy Lowery-Carter and husband, Steve, Jan Lowery and fiance, James Campbell, Jennifer Wade, and Jeremy Wade; two great grandchildren, Riley Carter and Adison Owen; a number of Nieces & Nephews; and a special pet, "Lily". He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 6, 2011 at 2:00 PM at Brooks Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Raymond Wooten officiating. Burial will follow in Black Walnut Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Brooks Funeral Home on Saturday, August 6, 2011 from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM and at other times at the home.
