Gene Edward “Ted” Walker of Buffalo Springs passed away on Sunday, November 28, 2021 at the age of 89. Born in Buffalo Springs on March 15, 1932, Ted was the son of Kathleen Nunn Walker and Travis Harlan Walker. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Grace Taylor of Clarksville. Ted is survived by his wife of 62 years, Nancy Castleman Walker, as well as his three children: Kim Walker Rush and husband Paul, Edward A. “Alex” Walker and wife Leisa, and Pam Walker. He had four grandchildren - Austin Walker, Ginny Crane, Gabe Rush, and Grace Rush – and one great-grandson, Redford Crane. He also leaves behind his beloved dog of many years, Sam. Ted served for two years as a Navy Seabee during the Korean War. He remained very proud of his service, and was often found wearing a Seabees baseball cap along with his usual work clothes. Following his service, Ted worked for over 40 years at Talbott Marks Construction, building roads and bridges all over Virginia. After living across the Commonwealth, he finally settled back in Buffalo Springs, just two miles from where he was born. He went on to co-own a trucking and welding business for over 25 years. In his retirement, he took great joy in his vegetable garden, and in taking Nancy and Sam for their daily ride around “the circle.” To his grandchildren, “Papa Ted” was family historian, often sharing stories and artifacts of his mother’s remarkable life along with his own memories of Buffalo Springs and beyond. A graveside service will be held at 1 PM on Thursday, December 2 at Gravel Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be considered to the Lake Country SPCA, P.O. Box 14, Clarksville, VA 23927. Online condolences may be made at www.wclfh.com. The family is being served by Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home, 703 Virginia Ave., Clarksville, VA.
