George Allen "Dookie" Bagbey

September 1, 1956 — December 14, 2021

SOUTH BOSTON George Allen "Dookie" Bagbey went home to be with his Lord, while at home, on Tuesday, December 14, 2021 at the age of 65.Born in Halifax County on September 1, 1956, he was the son of the late Hermanand Delma Satterfield Bagbey and was married to DeAnn Byrd-Bagbey. "Dookie", as everyone knew him, was a fixture at the South Boston Speedway for most of his life. Dookie attended races during his childhood when it was still a dirt track, then worked on race cars with his brother Lawrence before finally getting behind the wheel of a car himself. He raced in several divisions in South Boston and Orange County. Once he wasn't actively racing, and after encouragement from Mason Day, Dookie took up behind the wheel of the pace car, driving the South Boston Speedway pace car for over 20 years. His passions were baseball, racing, and horses. He coached baseball and was a positive mentor for the children in our community and was so proud of coaching his own boys in the Dixie Youth League. He was the owner of Snap-On Tools franchise in South Boston for 34 years. His customers were like family to him. A country boy at heart, he loved his farm and horses. Dookie was a faithful family man, fun loving and witty up until his last days, which was evident by his last words, "I'm good" and "I always win." Leaving to cherish his memories are his wife, DeAnn; sons, Jared Bagbey (Dezra) of Coconut Creek, FL and Jordan Bagbey of Fort Worth, TX; grandson, Mason Bagbey; siblings, Lawrence Bagbey of Cluster Springs and Faye Seate (Page) of Nelson; a host of loving nieces and nephews and his special horses, Doc and Thunda. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Robert Lee Bagbey. A Celebration of Lifewill be held at 12 Noon on Saturday, December 18, 2021 at his home, 5055 Old Cluster Springs Road, South Boston, VA.
