Mr. George Stover Cole, Sr. of 2082 Old Grubby Rd., South Boston, VA died Thursday, July 7, 2011 at the age of 93. He was born in Halifax Co., VA on February 12, 1918 to the late Charlie W. and Nannie Lowery Cole and was married to the late Josephine Oakes Cole. He was a vetern of the U.S. Army and was an auto body mechanic. Mr. Cole was a member of Black Walnut Baptist Church, American Legion Post 8, VFW Post 8243, and was a lifetime member of the Halifax Co. Rescue Squad. Survivors include two daughters, Carolyn C. Switzer of High Point, NC and Jane Cole Rose of South Boston, VA; a son, George Stover Cole, Jr. of Gastonia, NC; a brother, Ralph Cole of South Boston, VA; a sister, Frances Chaney of Halifax; two grandsons, Greg Meeks and David Meeks; five granddaughters, Lindsey Rose Neal, Melissa Rose Woodruff, Emily Cole, Kelly Cole, and Marilyn Vera-Cole; and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents,and five brothers and sisters. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, July 10, 2011 at 3:00 PM at Black Walnut Baptist Church with Rev. Raymond Wooten officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Brooks Funeral Home Saturday night from 7:00 until 8:30 PM and at other times at the home.
