George William Morris

Mr. George William Morris of Virgilina died Sunday, June 6, 2010 at the age of 84. He was born in Halifax Co. on October 10, 1925 to the late Asa Howard and Elsie O'Geary Morris and was married to the late Hazel Elliott Morris and Ruth Geary Morris. Mr. Morris was a US Navy Veteran of WW II, retired from Rochester Button and tobacco farming, and was a member of Union Christian Church. He followed and met annually with his shipmates of the USS Arctic. He was a 20 year member of a square dance club in Clarksville. In addition to his wife, Mr. Morris is survived by two daughters, Phyllis Hudson and husband, Curtis of Virgilina and Pamela Eakes and husband, Harvey of South Boston; four step sons, Michael Puryear and wife, Gwynne of Roxboro, NC, Dan Puryear of Richmond, Jamie Puryear of Cluster Springs and Jeff Puryear also of Cluster Springs; two step daughters, Jennifer Vinciguerra and husband, Todd of Mission Viejo, CA, and Beth Mullen and husband, Ken of Chapel Hill, NC; a sister, Doris Averette of Virgilina; grandchildren, Jennifer Lowery and husband, Chris, Anthony Scott Hudson, Joan Cannon and husband, Rob, Jacqueline Wilkins and husband, Scott, Bridgett Eakes, Laura Eakes, and Anne Harvey Eakes; great grandchildren, Andrew Talley, Maci Lowery, Laci Wilkins, Ashton Hudson, and Ryan Cannon; great-great grandchild, Jackson Talley; mother-in-law, Violet Geary; step grandchildren, Krissie Duke, Shannon Puryear, Michael Scott Puryear, Mark Mullen, Kaden Vinciguerra, and Nicki Vinciguerra. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 9, 2010 at 11:00 AM at Union Christian Church with Rev. Sidney Rodriguez, Rev. Norman Talley & Rev. Scott Welch officiating. Burial will follow in Virgilina Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Brooks Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 8 from 7:00 until 8:30 PM and at other times at the home of Phyllis and Curtis Hudson, 1242 Rip Rap Rd., Virgilina.
