George Elwood Wilborn, Jr.

George Elwood Wilborn Jr. of South Boston passed away on Monday, October 3, 2022 at the age of 79. He was born in Halifax County on July 20, 1943 to the late George Elwood Wilborn Sr and Lessie Morris Wilborn. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Ruth Powell Wilborn.

George retired from ABB. He loved being outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He always enjoyed having breakfast with his buddies at Bojangles. George will be remembered as being a devoted husband, father and grandfather, and loving his family.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth; son, Chris Wilborn (Sandy); daughter, Kim Powell (Jimmy); step daughter, Veronna Gail Barksdale (Jesse); grandchildren, Sydney Grace and Lacey Faith Wilborn, Vanessa Anne Powell and Mike Snead (Sheila); step great grandchildren, Blake Snead, Hayden Snead, and Brianna Rauser-Chisholm; brother, William J. Wilborn (Brenda); sisters, Elsie Reaves (Allen), Mary Rachel Combs and Mattie Thrower (Wayne) and a sister in law, Sharon Wilborn.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by sisters, Clara Thaxton and Ruby Manning; and a brother, Jimmy Lee Wilborn.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, October 8, 2022 at Brooks Lyon Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Jack Stewart officiating. Burial will follow in Halifax Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, 1-2 PM at Brooks Lyon Funeral Home and other times at his home at 1011 Elm Court, South Boston, VA.
