Geraldine Hazelwood Lacks

SOUTH BOSTON - Geraldine Hazelwood Lacks of South Boston died Friday, November 13, 2015 at the age of 75. She was born in Halifax Co., VA on July 20, 1940 to the late Thomas June Hazelwood and the late Ida Mae Conner Hazelwood and was married to the late Willie Jeffress Lacks. Geraldine was a member of Public Fork Christian Church and a former inspector at Burlington Industries in Clarksville. She loved taking care of others, cooking, and baking. Mrs. Lacks is survived by a son, Michael Jeffress Lacks and special friend, Tammy White of Capron, VA; three daughters, Lisa Gail Alderson and husband, Mark of Sutherlin, VA, Rita Carol Perkins and husband, David of South Boston, VA, and Donna Paige Gibson and husband, David of Halifax, VA; a brother, Otis Hazelwood and wife, Jenny of Saxe, VA; two sisters, Edith Bray and husband, Harold of South Boston, VA and Carolyn Carrington and husband, Lloyd of Roxboro, NC; her aunt, Anna Lacks of Red Oak, VA; eight grandchildren, Eric Lacks, Patrick Lacks, Salina Valania, Jamie Lacks, Samantha Moser, Sara Moser, Cheryl Alderson, and Steven Alderson; five great grandchildren; brother-in-law, Richard Lacks and wife, Barbara; sisters-in-law, Ortie Lacks and Pauline Hipps; a host of other relatives and friends; and special friends, Rhea Roller and Tommy Blount. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and two sisters, Betty Turlington and Beatrice Hazelwood. Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 16, 2015 at 2:00 PM at Public Fork Christian Church with Evangelist Denis Fritz officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Brooks Lyon Funeral Home on Sunday, November 15, 2015 from 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM and at other times at her home, 449 Crescent Dr., South Boston, VA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Halifax County Cancer Association, PO Box 1891, Halifax, VA 24558.
