Grace Sue Cole Elliott

Mrs. Grace Sue Cole Elliott of Virgilina died Sunday, December 6, 2009 at the age of 85. She was born in Halifax County on June 4, 1924 to the late Robert Edward and Janie Lowery Cole and was married to the late Alvah Fletcher "Pete" Elliott. Mrs. Elliott retired after driving a school bus for 33 years for the Halifax Co. School System. She attended Virgilina School followed by Beauty School in Raleigh, NC and previously owned and operated a beauty shop in Virgilina. Survivors include two daughters, Enola Gay Elliott Harvey of Lynchburg and Donna Jane Elliott of Ringgold; two sisters, Elsie Ford of Virgilina and Primrose Goodwin of South Boston; three granddaughters, Emily Harvey, Sarah Harvey, and Molly Harvey; a number of nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Pete Cole, Waverly Cole, and Elvin Cole. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 9 at 2:00 PM at Shady Grove United Methodist Church with burial to follow in Virgilina Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Brooks Funeral Home Tuesday night from 7 until 8:30 PM and at other times at the home. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., 17th Floor, Chicago, IL 60601-7633. The family would like to thank Addie Burnette, Lorraine Hughes, Margaret Lawson, Phyllis Carrington, and the staff at Halifax Regional Hospital for their special care of Mrs. Elliott.
