Mrs. Gracie Owen Douglas, 85, of 1009 Boelte Lane, Vernon Hill died Sunday, January 10, 2010 at her home. She was born in Halifax County November 19, 1924, the daughter of the late Fuller Owen and the late Gertrude Nichols Owen and was married to the late Roy Thompson Douglas. Mrs. Douglas was a member of Beulah Baptist Church in Brookneal where she formerly served as a deacon, and held numerous other offices and she was retired from Ross laboratories and was also a farmer. Survivors include two sons, James Thompson “Jimmy” Douglas and wife, Sharon of Blairs, and Randy Jones Douglas and wife, Shirley of Long Island; one daughter, Marion “Bunny” Saunders and husband Roger of Vernon Hill; one daughter-in-law, Wanda M. Douglas of Keeling; three brothers, Simmon Owen of South Boston, Kenneth Owen of Vernon Hill and Bill Owen of South Boston; one sister, Lavern Hazelwood of South Boston; Seven Grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three sons, Jackie Davis Conner, Fuller J. Douglas, and Andy Douglas; one brother, Lawrence Fuller Owen; and three sisters, Marion Parker Owen, Carolyn Owen Snow and Mildred Owen Moser. Funeral services will be held at Beulah Baptist Church, Brookneal, Wednesday, January 13 at 2 p.m.. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Brooks Funeral Home Tuesday evening, January 12, from 7 until 8:30, at Beulah Baptist Church Wednesday, January 13, from 1 until 2 p.m., and at other times at the home.
