March 16, 1943 — December 16, 2014

VIRGILINA, VA Grady James Cole of Ramble Road, Virgilina, went to meet his maker on Tuesday, December 16, 2014.Born in Halifax County, VA on March 16, 1943, he was the beloved and devoted son of the late Harper and Hazel Hudson Cole.Surviving are his wife, Barbara Cole of Virgilina, VA; a brother, H. E. Cole and wife, Ginny of Cary, NC; one sister, Brenda Lewis of Danville, VA; and Michael Cole who was raised as a son, his wife, Jennifer, and their children, Olivia and Sabrina.Mr. Cole was very proud to have served in the US Army in Vietnam, and continued to support the veteran community throughout his life. Grady was a man who wore many hats. After spending many years as owner/operator of Von’s Motel & Restaurant, he started working on his farm.He cut every fence post, tore down the old house, repaired the old tobacco barn and, with the help of Dick Nichols, built a new home.He enjoyed living in the country where he could have all of his big boy toys; tractors, bushhogs, tetters, and zero turn mowers. An avid Nascar fan, he attended many Talladega races during his life, and was always a Richard Petty fan during his earlier years. He was a man of his word in both his personal and business life.Over the years one of his greatest pleasures was enjoying “His Boys.”These young folks came into his life and gave him encouragement, joy and sometimes made him mad, but all of them were considered his fellas and he would help them in any way.
