Gwendolyn Yancey Talley

Gwendolyn Yancey Talley of Buffalo Junction, VA, passed away on Sunday evening, October 1, 2023, at the age of 66. She was born in Mecklenburg County on September 9, 1957, to the late Raymond and Jane Overby Yancey and was married to Edwin Ray Talley, who survives. Gwen was a graduate of Mecklenburg Academy. She worked at Russell Stover Candies, was head cashier at Winn-Dixie and later was a secretary for Moore’s Chevrolet. Gwen retired in 2010 and took care of her parents until their deaths. She enjoyed yard work and crafting. Gwen was a lifetime member of Buffalo Baptist Church and was active in her church. She taught Sunday School, served as Choir Director, and was involved in many mission projects. Always hospitable, she opened her home to several hot air balloon pilots while they participated in Lake Fest.

In addition to her husband of 34 years, cherishing many fond memories are her brother-in-law, Allen Talley (Wendy); nephews, Bobby Talley (Taylor) and Zachary Talley (Megan); niece, Kelly Pracht (Ted); grandnephew, Arlo and cousins, Casina Sandifer, Angela Yancey and Monty Terrel.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Friday, October 6 at Buffalo Baptist Church with burial to follow in Oakhurst Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home on Thursday from 6-8 PM.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations to the Clarksville Volunteer Fire Department be considered.
