Hosea Larvester Puryear, 87, died on February 2, 2012. He was born on February 19, 1924 to Howard and Lizzy W. Puryear. Larvester became a farmer and had a career as a sample weaver at Burlington Industries. His hobbies included model trains and gardening. He enjoyed Christmas lights and was a friend to all children. He is survived by his son, Henry Jeffress Jeffrey Puryear; three sisters, Beulah Crenshaw of South Boston, Bessie and husband Gordon Moore of South Boston, and Pearl and husband Alfred Hudson of South Boston, many nieces and nephews and long-time friend Thom Gregory. Larvester's canine sons are Snoopy and Blacky. He was predeceased by his wife, Ruth Averette Puryear, whom he married on August 8, 1948. During his time as a life-long member of Nelson Baptist Church, he served the church as a deacon. Visitation for friends and family will be Sunday, February 5, 2012 at 3:00 pm. at Nelson Baptist Church 1837 Nelson Church Road, Nelson, VA 24580. Services will follow at 4:00 pm at the church.
