Hampton Owen Dawson

Mr. Hampton Owen Dawson, Sr. of Halifax, VA, formerly of Presque Isle, ME, died Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at the age of 78. He was born in Pittsylvania Co., VA on September 18, 1936 to the late Letcher Thornton Dawson and the late Jessie White Dawson and was married to Vickie Smith Dawson. Mr. Dawson was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He was the owner/operator of Potato Equipment Corp. in Presque Isle, ME retiring in 1997. Mr. Dawson also operated Arby's, Caribou Ford Mercury, Smokin' Suds, and Parson Street Redemption Center. He lived between Maine and Florida and enjoyed cooking and gardening. Survivors include his wife, Vickie Smith Dawson of Halifax, VA;a brother, Claude Dawson and wife, Evelyn of Gretna, VA; a sister, Evelyn D. Conner and husband, Wayne of South Boston, VA;six children, Rhonda D. Lloyd and husband, Arney of South Boston, VA , Hampton Dawson, Jr., Stacy Dawson and wife, Norma, Holly McLean and husband, Tim, all of Presque Isle, ME, Charity Dawson and Natasha Dawson, both of Scottsbluff, NE; and four grandchildren. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 23, 2015 at 2:00 PM in Oakland Cemetery in Scottsburg, VA with the Reverend Jane Lyon officiating.
