VIRGILINA, VA Mrs. Hannah Lois Murray Hite, age 95, died Wednesday, December 13, 2017.She was born on Gills Mountain Road in the Red Bank community where she lived from her birth on January 6, 1922 to her death. Mrs. Hite was the daughter of the late William Albert Murray and the late Viola Jennings Glasscock Murray, and was the widow of Henry Belt Hite. After graduating high school, she attended Stratford College and Danville Hospital School of Nursing. Her professional career included Danville North Main Hospital, South Boston General Hospital and 46 years with South Boston Medical & Surgical Clinic. Throughout her life, Mrs. Hite was an active volunteer in southside Virginia.Since childhood, she was a member of Union Christian Church where she served as a former deacon, choir member, Sunday School teacher, member of the children’s group, and president of the Women’s Fellowship group. During her many years as a board member of the Halifax County Cancer Association, she served ten years in the capacity of board president.For 69 years, she was a member of the American Legion Post 337 Ladies Auxiliary. Additionally, she was a member of VFW Post 8243 Auxiliary, Virgilina Woman’s Club, South Boston-Halifax County Museum, Halifax County Humane Society, and the Order of the Eastern Star, where she was Past Worthy Matron. Survivors are one daughter, Hannah Jean McGregor and husband Tony of Ringgold, VA; one grandchild, Jennifer Clement of Youngsville, NC; two great-grandchildren, Sarah Elizabeth Clement and Mary Anna Clement, also of Youngsville, NC; one sister-in-law, Barbara Murray of Virgilina, VA; one niece, Carole M. Tisdale and husband Joe of Pueblo, CO; four nephews, James E. Murray, Jr. and wife Janis of Mebane, NC, Ralph O. Murray, Jr. and wife Beverly of Virgilina, VA, William B. “Billy” Murray and wife Iris of Virgilina, VA, and Henry E. Murray and wife Connie also of Virgilina, VA; by two great nephews, Jason Murray and Gregory Murray and wife Paula all of Virgilina, VA; five great nieces, Jan Murray Crews and husband, Michael of Virgilina, VA, Tracey Lynn Jones of Mebane, NC, Janis Jennings Tripp and husband Mickey of Mebane, NC, Terri Murray and Tyra Murray both of Virgilina, VA; one great great niece, Mickey Jennings Tripp of Mebane, NC; and by special friends, Lottie Sue Nunn, Louise Jaloway, and Catherine Smith.In addition to her parents and husband, two brothers, James Edward Murray, Sr. and Ralph Owen Murray, Sr. also preceded her in death. Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 16 at 3:00 PM at Union Christian Church with Mr. Buddy Rose officiating.Burial will follow in Virgilina Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday night, December 15th, from 7 until 8:30 at the Brooks Lyon Funeral Home. Those wishing to give memorials are asked to donate to a charity of your choice.
