Harold Parks Smith

Rev. Harold Parks Smith, of 7015 Bethel Road, Scottsburg, VA, died Friday, May 23, 2014, at the age of 82 at his home. He was born in Cramerton, NC, on June 13, 1931, the son of the late Earl Smith and the late Maude Crowe Smith, and was married to Minnie Forbes Smith. Rev. Smith was a retired Baptist pastor having served the following churches: Merry Oaks Baptist Church, founder of Truth Missionary Baptist Church, and Belmont Baptist Church, all in NC, and Beacon Light Baptist Church in Hot Springs, AK. While in Hot Springs, he was also a professor at Champion Bible College. Rev. Smith also served as a missionary to the military overseas in Stuttgart, Germany. Upon his retirement to Scottsburg, he joined Seven Oaks Baptist Church where he taught in the South Boston School of the Bible at Seven Oaks Baptist Church. Rev. Harold Parks Smith is survived by his wife, Minnie Forbes Smith of Scottsburg, and his sons: Ricky Earl Smith and his wife, Libby, of Chapel Hill, NC; Michael Warren Smith and his wife, Gloria, of Garner, NC; Christopher Duff Smith and his wife, Glenna, of Fort Collins, CO; and Jeffrey Parks Smith and his wife, Peggie, of Scottsburg, VA. Also surviving are nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents who preceded him in death, he was also preceded in death by one grandchild and one great grandchild. Graveside funeral services for Rev. Harold Parks Smith will be held Wednesday, May 28, 2014, at 11:00 AM at Hickory Grove Baptist Church, 3717 Hickory Grove Road, Gastonia, NC, with Pastor Ron Humphries and Pastor Jimmy McMillan officiating. The family will receive friends at the home, 7015 Bethel Road, Scottsburg, VA.
