She was predeceased by her husband, Jesse Robert Overstreet, Jr. and is survived by her children, Dr. Mary Marshall Overstreet of Exeter, Maine, and Robert Sutherlin Overstreet of Clarksville. Harriette attended Longwood College, graduating in May, 1948, and married Jesse in December 1948. After his graduation from law school, they moved to Clarksville where she taught business education in the local high schools. In 1979, the Governor of Virginia appointed her to the Longwood College Board of Visitors. In 1997, the school recognized her for this and other service to Longwood with life membership in Societe Jeanne d'Arc. After retirement, she joined Twin Rivers Garden Club and was especially proud of her role in restoration of the Terrace Gardens at Occoneechee. She also was a founding member of the Wednesday Book Club, a supporter of the Burnett Library, and one of the group starting the first local "no kill" animal shelter, now Lake Country SPCA. At her specific request, there will not be a memorial service and interment will be private at Arbor Baptist Church in Sutherlin, Va.
