Harvey Ingram Gravitt

Harvey Ingram Gravitt, age 81, of 8007 Florence Avenue Virgilina, VA died Wednesday August 31, 2011 at Halifax Regional Hospital. Mr. Gravitt was a native of Christie, VA born December 24, 1929, son of the late Jessie Enos Gravitt and Mary Frances Gravitt Gravitt and husband of 49 years to Mary Geraldine Nelson Gravitt. He worked for Craddock and Terry Shoe Factory and was retired from Mechanical Systems Inc. of Greensboro NC and his family church was Shady Grove Methodist Church. Surviving in addition to his wife is one daughter, Judy Carol Nelson Jones (Ollie David Jones Jr.) of Oxford, NC., one sister Nancy L. Gravitt Scott of South Boston, VA., two grandchildren Ollie David Jones III (Anne Snead Jones) and Delta Jones Elliott (Billy J. Elliott) both of Oxford, NC and three great-grandchildren Ollie David Jones IV, Ethan P. Jones and Jacob P. Elliott. In addition to his parents Mr. Gravitt is preceded in death by five brothers, Clarence D. Gravitt, H. Newman Gravitt, Claude M. Gravitt, James E. Gravitt, Aubrey H. Gravitt and one sister Beatrice Susan Gravitt Watts. Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m on Friday, September 2, 2011 at Virgilina Cemetery in Virgilina VA.
