Helen Smith Gregory

BOYDTON Mrs. Helen Smith Gregory of Boydton, VA passed away on Friday, January 3, 2020 at the age of 98. Born in Lynchburg, VA on January 9, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Birdie and David C. Smith and was married to the late Henry Hansford Gregory, Sr. Helen was a graduate of Madison College, now James Madison University and was a member of the JMU sorority, Alpha Sigma Tau (AET). She taught school in the Mecklenburg County school system for 30 years. She was a member of Boydton United Methodist Church and past president of Anna Allen Women’s Circle; and also a member and past president of the Boydton Chapter of The United Daughters of the Confederacy. Left to cherish her memories are a son, Henry Hansford Gregory, Jr and wife, Betty; grandson, David Hansford Gregory and his wife, Courtney, of Montpelier, VA; great grandchildren, Paxton Cole Gregory and Josie Thomas Gregory. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Thomas Ray Gregory. A Graveside Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, January 5, 2020 at Boydton Baptist Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 4, 2020 from 7:00 – 8:30 PM at Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home.
